Five meals you can cook for under a fiver
Is your weekly shop digging a big hole in your wallet?
Here are 5 meals you can cook at home, and best of all you only need a £5 note for each…
Toad in the hole
A favourite amongst Brits, you can cook a mean toad in the hole with just a few sausages, vegetable oil, plain flour, eggs, milk and salt and pepper. You’ll even have room to add some roasties and veg.
Mac ‘n’ cheese
This is one dish that doesn’t lose its popularity the older you get. You’ll need some macaroni and cheese (obviously) and some butter, plain flour, milk, dried breadcrumbs and a pinch of paprika.
Easy to make, Mac 'n' Cheese is a fan favourite.
Lemon tart
Why not add a cheeky dessert to the list? Go to your local supermarket and grab yourself some butter, icing sugar, plain flour, eggs, caster sugar and some lemons (mmm zesty).
Sweet potato pie
Who doesn’t like a pie, especially a sweet one? The usual butter, caster sugar, milk and eggs are needed, along with nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla. Oh, and a load of sweet potato.
Apple crumble
Two desserts? Surely not! You’ll need a kg’s worth of apples plus some caster sugar, plain flavour, cinnamon and water. And if you want the extra crumble, you’ll want to get some porridge oats, dark brown soft sugar, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda and butter.
