London's weird and wonderful pies

By Adam Clancy

Fancy a different, less traditional pie to try in the capital? Here’s a bite-sized slice of potential nominees…

‘All Day Breakfast’ Pie - Young Vegans, Camden

This pie consists of scrambled tofu, caramelised onions, smokey baked beans and vegan sausage. Quite a mouthful to say and to eat.

‘Kevin’ Pie – Pieminister, Gabriel’s Wharf

This new vegan pie holds tomato, mushroom and red wine, with a bonus of baby onions and thyme. You can take the pie out for a walk along the river bank if you don’t fancy eating in.

‘Pork’ Pie – Holborn Dining Room, Holborn

Not what you might think. This pie is packed with pig parts, including pork leg and shoulder. It also contains smoked ham hock, pancetta and fennel seeds.

‘Jerk’ Pie – Piebury Corner, Kings Cross

This pie contains simply some jerk chicken in porter gravy. Assistant manager Jake Allen says it’s the quirkiest pie they offer and very popular. “I wouldn’t eat it myself but the customers love it,” he added.

British Pie Week runs from the 5th – 11th March 2019.
